Theatre Dance/Tap

THEATRE DANCE

Theatre Dance focuses on the dance elements of musical theatre. This is a choreography based class, but is not limited to ballet & jazz technique. Theatre dance combines technique and style while emphasizing the performance qualities that are needed to develop characters and story lines. Dancers will learn about original Broadway musical repertoire as well as new choreography.

CURRICULUM
Theatre Dance is a formal division discipline and students must be 6 years old (by September 1st) to enroll in the program. Upon their enrollment students are placed in to levels according to their age and ability. Each level is designed to help a student master the techniques of Theatre Dance. This class begins with a jazz warm-up and may include progressions across the floor, singing, acting and working with props.

Requirements are established to ensure the safety and development of the dancer.

The School offers all new students a free trial class in order for our faculty to correctly level the dancer.

Theatre Dance 1 Jazz or Ballet level 1 & 1x (ages 6 - 8)
Ballet and Jazz classes strongly recommended

Jazz or Ballet level 2 and 2x (ages 9 - 11)

DRESS CODE
Rock West dress codes are established for the dancer's safety and aid in the instructor's ability to correct and educate students.

Female
Top: Solid black leotard or solid black spandex cami top (NO T-shirts). Saturdays any color solid leotard or solid spandex cami top.
Bottom: Solid black spandex fitted jazz pant, capri or dance short and/or tights.
Shoes: Any tan slip on jazz shoe. NO socks or sneakers. Level 4 students are required to have tan character shoes.
Hair: Must be pulled back neatly off the face and neck.

Male
Top: Solid black or white fitted t-shirt or tank top.
Bottom: Solid black jazz pants, fitted athletic pants or shorts above the knee. NO baggy clothing.
Shoes: Black slip-on jazz shoes. NO socks or sneakers.

All accessories, including jewelry, must be removed before class.

A dance style in which rhythm is sounded out by clicking taps on the heels and toes of a dancers shoes. Classes consist of a warm-up, across the floor and center exercises. Dancers are taught the fundamentals of tap technique and are also exposed to various styles of tap choreography ranging from Broadway to hoofing. 

TAP
Tap is a formal division discipline and students must be 6 years old (by September 1) to enroll in the program. Upon their enrollment students are placed in levels according to their age and ability. Each level is designed to help a student master the techniques of Tap.

Requirements are established to ensure the safety and development of the dancer.

The School offers all new students a free trial class in order for our faculty to correctly level the dancer.

Jazz/Tap 1-This class is designed for young dancers who have completed the Early Dance division or are exploring dance for the first time. Dancers will be given a solid foundation while further enhancing musical awareness, rhythm and coordination. Dancers will explore dance technique while having fun in a positive and nurturing environment.

Tap 1x - Basic Beginner Tap technique
No previous training required.

Tap 2 - Advanced Beginner Tap technique
Previous training required.

Tap 3 - Intermediate/Advanced Tap technique
Previous training required.

INSTRUCTOR-STUDENT CONTACT
The Rock School offers teaching that is individual and hands-on. It is normal and appropriate for a member of the faculty to manually and physically position a pupil to expound a point of instruction or to identify some needed technique correction. The School neither condones nor tolerates any touching of students by instructors that is harmful, professionally reckless, or that violates generally accepted tenets of propriety. Before enrolling a student, please consider that it is school policy to correct children with physical contact. If the student or parent/guardian is uncomfortable with this policy, you may wish to reconsider enrolling the student.
